Before you tick “Older tests”: the 2013 to 2015 tests were set for levels 3 to 5 under the old curriculum. A few of their topics, such as ellipsis, are not in today’s Year 6 test, and some questions are easier. Tick this box for extra practice or for pupils who need easier questions; leave it unticked for questions that match today’s tests. Spelling words come from today’s style of test only.

About these questions

The questions come from the key stage 2 English grammar, punctuation and spelling tests from 2016 to 2025 (including the 2016 sample test), and, if you tick “Older tests”, from the 2013 to 2015 tests and the 2013 sample test. Each question is a picture cut straight from the published paper, with its original marks. The printed question number is removed so your sheet can number its own questions, and the answers are the official mark-scheme entries. Topic names come from the content-domain code the Standards and Testing Agency gives each question (for example G5.10 is colons and G4.4 is passive and active).

Spelling words come from Paper 2 of the same tests. The sentence is shown with a gap; the answers sheet gives the missing word and a short script for the teacher to read aloud.

About the older tests. The 2013 to 2015 tests used older reference codes, so we sorted each of their questions into the same topics by reading it. Treat those labels as our best judgement. Some questions are worth two marks.
