Maths worksheets for Years 3 to 6

Make a sheet

Choose a year, a unit and a step and get a brand-new sheet: new numbers, new pictures, new puzzles, with the answers in red in the same file. Print it, or download it as an editable Word file. Nothing is sent to a server: the sheet is made in your browser.

Both sheets have exactly the same kind of questions. The scaffolded sheet adds key words in yellow, a hint under each question and help charts or number lines. Every sheet is printed twice side by side on A4 portrait, so you can cut down the middle and give two pupils a half each to stick in their books. Pupils write their answers in their books.

Questions

“Fluency only” is handy for a quick re-try with new numbers after a lesson.

How Make a sheet works

Every unit that has been rewritten for Make a sheet appears in the unit list for its year. At the moment that is Year 5 Autumn: Place value (Roman numerals up to 1,000, Numbers up to 10,000, Numbers up to 100,000, Numbers up to 1,000,000, Reading and writing numbers up to 1,000,000, Powers of 10, Finding 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000 more or less, Partitioning numbers up to 1,000,000, Number lines up to 1,000,000, Comparing and ordering numbers up to 100,000, Comparing and ordering numbers up to 1,000,000, Rounding to the nearest 10, 100 or 1,000, Rounding within 100,000, Rounding within 1,000,000); Each sheet has eight fluency questions that start easy and get harder, then six reasoning questions with pictures, tables, number lines and Boba characters in speech bubbles.

Every question is written by a program from the numbers it picks, and every answer is worked out by the same program, never typed by hand. A second, separate program works out all the answers again for thousands of sheets, and checks things such as “this clue puzzle has exactly one answer” and “this arrow really is on that number”. The sheets have not been checked by a class teacher yet, so please read the answers before you give them out.

The Word file opens in Word, Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice, so you can change a number, delete a question or add your own. The answers are in red, after the questions, in the same file.
